How to Commission a Portrait



I work from photographs, so I can use an existing picture if you have a particular favorite, or I'm happy to photograph your animal myself, which is a wonderful way to know your animal a little more. Meeting the animal is not required. I've often painted from photographs from clients out of state.

My portraits heavily resemble the photograph or photographs. However, some client like for me to experiement with a more abstract or modern look. These details we can work out easily in the first interview with you and your beloved animal. Prior to commencement, I like to confirm  the photograph I will be using, as well as all the details such as size, look and feel, time frame, delivery method, etc.

Turnaround time is approximately 10 days.  A 50% deposit is required. I work in acrylic but I also work in Oil upon request. This increases the price by 200.00 as material costs increase and the delivery time because Oil paint dries more slowly.

 I'd love to talk with you about your interests and thoughts about having a portrait painted of your pet!  I have happy clients  and referrals from the East Coast and West Coast. This makes a wonderful gift. I discount for portraiture of other animals besides dogs because I'm working to increase my portfolio. For portraiture of cats, birds, rabbits, farm animals there is a 10 % discount.
